ABSTRACT

This project work discuss the Design and Implementation of System Access Control in Computer Laboratories Using Time in Computer Science Department,  federal polytechnic Nasarawa. It will substitute the manual operation in the laboratory. Computer science laboratory is a place where practical, hardware cloninig and maintenance are carried out. This project will control unauthorized users, users that have time and the time has its limit or expiring duration so as to control computer systems in the computer science department laboratories.  

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY.

The aim of this project is to design and implement a personal computer system access control system in a computer laboratory using visual basic programming language. The objectives of this study are as follows

1. To improve operational efficiency, thereby increase the computer laboratory capacity and its ability to expand its operation in terms of security.
2. To ensure a computerized record keeping in computer laboratory, that is to say, the ability to keep track on record of people using the laboratory
3. To design software or program that will control the way users access the computer in the laboratory at any period of time. 
4. To provide useful instrument for planning, controlling and security purpose second are specific objective which detail the system component requirement. to provide tighter control over users resources in the laboratory. 
5. To ensure that the operating system that will support security are installed in the laboratory PCS such as windows 7 which gives room for security

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY 

This research work portrays the importance of automation of access control using timer in institution as a whole. Some of the significance of this study is as follows.

1.      It will help on how to control the allocation of computer resources to the user according to their skills.

2.      It helps in borrowing week point of the system and thereby suggests solution to the weakness.

3.      It helps in borrowing more about security in computer laboratory and appreciate security measure to be taken.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

This research work portrays the importance of automation of access control in computer laboratory.

ORAL INTERVIEW

This is a face to face oral communication between the researcher and the respondent. In this method of data capturing the researchers ask questions based on his/her research work and the respondents also replies verbally based on the researchers question.   

DEFINITION OF TERMS 

Some of the terms used in this research work are:-

a.     security:- is a system of save-guarding, for protecting information, computer room against disasters, system failure and unauthorized access that can result to damage or loss. Or security is the system of protecting computer system, files and other computer resources against damage or attach and unauthorized access.

b.     Access right:– this are system administration determine the type of security or file protection is done by the system administrator who allocate different time and access codes to various users given them the right of usage of the computer facilities.

c.      Password:- this cared character or number only known to the user. This is to save or protect the useful or record from authorized user.

d.     Algorithm:– this the logical step involved in accomplishing a particular task or goal.

e.      Flowchart:- this is the pictorial or graphical representation of algorithm.
