ASSESSMENT OF OFFICE MANAGERS PROFESSION AND HIS OR HER STATUS IN PUBLIC ORGANISATION
(A CASE STUDY OF LOCAL EDUCATION AUTHORITY KWALI)
ABSTRACT
This study on the topic the assessment of office manager profession and his/her status in public organization a case study of local education authority kwali. The introduction identifies who the office manager is and tells us about the assessment of office manager and its status in the organization. The role in establishing and maintain a working relationship is ever enumerated. The simple percentage method was used. Also three research questions were asked; fifteen drawn research questionnaire were derived from the research question, the major findings drawn, it was discovered that the relationship between office managers has a major effect on the performance of an organization either positively or negatively. The research recommended that both the office manager and the organization work towards building and maintaining a stable relationship even though there would be difficulties in such relationship.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1            BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The topic to be dealt with can best be understood if two terms that forms the central topic for this discuss VIZ “Assessment of office managers are clearly defined. The term assessment can be defined as an examination or text put down with a mind to have a specific result. Assessment is made on a need of judgment to get more acquainted with the situation or person. Hence, for a response, result or reason for any further progress, an assessment has to be made.
Assessment as defined by Evelyn (1999) a focus in which you made a judge about a person or situation. The word “assess” is define as making a judgment about a person or situation after thinking carefully about it.
According to Azuka (1992) defined office manager as something know to one or few and kept separate or hidden from the view or knowledge of others.
Therefore the office manager can be regarded as a keeper of secret. One major responsibility of office manager in an organization is to evaluate the performance of his subordinate.
The reason for this assessment is to evaluate their character, attitude, potential and past performance on the job. It has also been known by public organization that people want to be recognized if not for their achievement at least for just been what they are.
It is the guest for recognition over the people of similar trades and affliction have come together to expose the relevance of their service standard and cultivate a culture of professionalism has been seen as the ability of a particular member of a career to acquire status, skills standard and the introduction of such skills, norms and value into practice, Azuka (2001). This study evaluates the office manager’s profession in a way of measuring the recognition given in ministries, organizations and by individuals. It is also observed that organizations only need a modest up to date of their employment condition and living up to such specifications.
It is acknowledged that the office manager’s profession has come of age. It is no longer tied to the type writer as the notion of many initiative decisions and application of administrative skills are require in organization still need to appreciate these facts and make room for the use of these qualities in order to get the best from the office managers of the revolutionalised office of today.
1.2            STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
It is very important to identify where one is heading to, in doing this some of the problems which made the researcher to go into this study is that most organization do not consider office managers in their training development program and most individuals and organizations do not give proper recognition to the profession.
1.3            PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purposes of the study are numerous but the following are most important:
1.     To find out whether there had been desired functional corrections between office manager’s profession and his or her status in public organization.
2.     To find out if office managers make maximum use of modern office equipment.
3.     To highlight the true professionalism of office managership in revolutionized office trend and how it is being tested.
1.4            RESEARCH QUESTIONS.
1.     What will be the desired functional corrections between office managers and his or her status in public organization?
2.     To what way do office managers make maximum use of modern equipment?
3.     How can the true professionalism of office managership in revolutionalised office trend be tested?
1.5     SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
The importance of this work cannot be over emphasized in the place; it gives opportunity to the researcher to meet with the practice of office manager, executive and those who work in close contact with office managers. This study will explain the effect of office managers, the society, organization and particularly the students stand to gain in improving status recognition of or for their workers especially office managers through the work.
The organization will benefit most from this study, for it will serve as a guide to the management not just to office managers but other staffs in the organization. It will also help the office managers to understand their roles in improving the status of their profession. The students on the other hand stand to benefit skills and to familiarize themselves with the tools that are required in corporate world. While the society will come to appreciate the need of office managers profession status in organization.
1.6            SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY
The scope of this research is limited to the department of office manager’s profession and his or her status in public organization using local education authority kwali as case study.
The study will be limited to Assessment of office manager’s profession and his or her status in public organization of local education authority kwali to ensure the provision of a manageable research work particularly in view of the time within which the researcher work must be completed.
             
 CHAPTER TWO
          REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
2.1     INTRODUCTION
This chapter is designed to show the review of related literature on the title of the study with the view of understanding the research problem. To achieve this purpose the following were made:
1.     The nature of office manager services.
2.     Office manager’s service and organizational proficiency.
3.     Office managership as a profession.
4.     The relevance of enhanced status of the office manager to the growth of organizations.
2.2     THE NATURE OF OFFICE MANAGER SERVICES
          The office manager’s profession is based on efficiency in meeting the organizational objective. Been a skilled profession it requires constant drilling and constant practice with the use of necessary equipment to meet the level of proficiency required in the organization. With the changing nature of the profession arising from technology, it is even more important give the office manager every opportunity if success should be attained.
According to Larfa (1996) the application of modern office technology which is mostly computer based has revolution used the entire office manager practice. In this new scope the office manager has thus been released from the traditional note taking, typing, duplicating, and even maintaining neat files.
2.3     THE OFFICE MANAGER
According to Shew (2001), the “secretary” is today as vague as the “engineer” it can mean all degree of office manager assistance from raw and not very accurate for leaner.
According to Geoffrey (1997) said that the office manager is the power behind the throne in many executive situations. As a group they probably do more to promote the efficiency of the nation than any other single occupation. Therefore an office manager can be regarded as one who is employed to keep manager can be regarded as one who is employed to keep records, take care of corresponding and other writing task for an individual and organization.
Azuka (1995) states that the word “office” manager” is something known only to one or few and kept separate or hidden from the view or knowledge others. Therefore office as the can be regarded as the keeper of secrets. Despite the above meaning perhaps the definition below best suits the purpose of this research work.
Evelyn (1999) states that the “office” manager is assistance to an executive who possess office skills and ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise judgment and make decision without the scope of the authority.
In this study, the researcher shall be concerned with the staff in the organization that perform conventional office manager’s duties at various levels   
TYPES OF OFFICE MANAGERS       
It has been observed that there are categories of office manager. Durowaiye (1992) categorized office manager into four which are:
1.     Confidential office manager.
2.     Personal office manager.
3.     Administrative office manager.
4.     Company office manager
