BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The topic to be dealt with can best
be understood if two terms that forms the central topic for this discuss VIZ
“Assessment of office managers are clearly defined. The term assessment can be
defined as an examination or text put down with a mind to have a specific
result. Assessment is made on a need of judgment to get more acquainted with
the situation or person. Hence, for a response, result or reason for any
further progress, an assessment has to be made.
Assessment as defined by Evelyn
(1999) a focus in which you made a judge about a person or situation. The word
“assess” is define as making a judgment about a person or situation after
thinking carefully about it.
According to Azuka (1992) defined
office manager as something know to one or few and kept separate or hidden from
the view or knowledge of others.
Therefore the office manager can be
regarded as a keeper of secret. One major responsibility of office manager in
an organization is to evaluate the performance of his subordinate.
The reason for this assessment is to
evaluate their character, attitude, potential and past performance on the job.
It has also been known by public organization that people want to be recognized
if not for their achievement at least for just been what they are.
It is the guest for recognition over
the people of similar trades and affliction have come together to expose the
relevance of their service standard and cultivate a culture of professionalism
has been seen as the ability of a particular member of a career to acquire
status, skills standard and the introduction of such skills, norms and value
into practice, Azuka (2001). This study evaluates the office manager’s
profession in a way of measuring the recognition given in ministries,
organizations and by individuals. It is also observed that organizations only
need a modest up to date of their employment condition and living up to such
specifications.

manager’s profession has come of age. It is no longer tied to the type writer
as the notion of many initiative decisions and application of administrative
skills are require in organization still need to appreciate these facts and
make room for the use of these qualities in order to get the best from the
office managers of the revolutionalised office of today.

CHAPTER TWO
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
2.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter is designed to show the
review of related literature on the title of the study with the view of
understanding the research problem. To achieve this purpose the following were
made:
1. The
nature of office manager services.
2. Office
manager’s service and organizational proficiency.
3. Office
managership as a profession.
4. The
relevance of enhanced status of the office manager to the growth of
organizations.
2.2 THE
NATURE OF OFFICE MANAGER SERVICES
The office manager’s profession is based on efficiency in meeting the
organizational objective. Been a skilled profession it requires constant
drilling and constant practice with the use of necessary equipment to meet the
level of proficiency required in the organization. With the changing nature of
the profession arising from technology, it is even more important give the
office manager every opportunity if success should be attained.
According to Larfa (1996) the
application of modern office technology which is mostly computer based has
revolution used the entire office manager practice. In this new scope the
office manager has thus been released from the traditional note taking, typing,
duplicating, and even maintaining neat files.
2.3 THE OFFICE MANAGER
According to Shew (2001), the
“secretary” is today as vague as the “engineer” it can mean all degree of
office manager assistance from raw and not very accurate for leaner.
According to Geoffrey (1997) said
that the office manager is the power behind the throne in many executive
situations. As a group they probably do more to promote the efficiency of the
nation than any other single occupation. Therefore an office manager can be
regarded as one who is employed to keep manager can be regarded as one who is
employed to keep records, take care of corresponding and other writing task for
an individual and organization.
Azuka (1995) states that the word
“office” manager” is something known only to one or few and kept separate or
hidden from the view or knowledge others. Therefore office as the can be
regarded as the keeper of secrets. Despite the above meaning perhaps the
definition below best suits the purpose of this research work.
Evelyn (1999) states that the
“office” manager is assistance to an executive who possess office skills and
ability to assume responsibility without direct supervision, exercise judgment
and make decision without the scope of the authority.
In this study, the researcher shall
be concerned with the staff in the organization that perform conventional
office manager’s duties at various levels
TYPES OF OFFICE
MANAGERS
It has been observed that there are categories of office
manager. Durowaiye (1992) categorized office manager into four which are:
1. Confidential
office manager.
2. Personal
office manager.
3. Administrative
office manager.
4. Company office manager
