GRID LEVELING AND CONTOURING OF PART OF KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC, MAIN CAMPUS LOKOJA KOGI STATE
ABSTRACT
Surveying is a science of making precise
measurement of relative position of points and features sizes, shape
and position of piece of land and present its physical on paper inform
of a map; plan or section. The project grid leveling and contouring
which is used to determine the spot height, contour and horizontal of
position point in part of Kogi State Polytechnic, Main Campus Lokoja
which was jointly executed in conformity with the school of
Environmental Technology. The work was achieved by carrying out the
following: (i) Coordinate of point (traversing) (ii) Girding (iii)
Leveling (iv) Plotting of establish point and spot height. This project
involves the use of three method of surveying and these are traversing
was used to defined the project area into grid and leveling is to
determine, the height of point grid. The project is aimed to provide a
contour plan showing the elevation surface and contour of the area of
the land cover. Meanwhile contouring is system of representation line on
a plan or map joining of points of equal height on the earth surface or
intersection of level surface within the area covered. This project
report is organized in four chapters, these reports address the various
survey method and procedure adopted. Instrument used for the field data,
description of problem encountered and recommendation.
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This project involves traversing to
coordinate, the corner points of the project area, girding, leveling and
contouring of the same.
1.1 BACKGROUND INFORMATION OF THE STUDY AREA
The background of study is a
section of Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja which comprises the school of
Environmental Technology Lokoja, Department of Computer Science,
Rector’s Office, the Chapel and Department of Science and Laboratory
Technology (SLT) Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, Kogi State.
1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
Physical developments building
structures have been erected without recourse to proper land management
practice. No plan of the land available anywhere and no documented
information of the nature of terrain.
The project is meant to provide a
contour plan which will fill the gap created by this lack of documented
information to facilitate intelligent sighting/location of certain
physical projects.
1.3 AIMS AND OBJECTIVE
The aim of this project is to produce a plan showing the contours of the area covered.
OBJECTIVE:
- For the determination of elevation of different point along the alignment of the proposed project.
- Leveling is used for calculating volume of earthwork, reservoir etc.
- The contour interpolation is for the determination of the slopeness of the ground of the area covered.
1.4 SCOPE OF STUDY
The scope of the project-work is to carryout the following:
- Perimeter survey of the area to determine the extent.
- Girding the area to 20m intervals
- Acquiring data on the spot heights
- Produce a contour plan of the area
1.5 THE PROJECT AREA
The area of project is part of Kogi
State Polytechnic Lokoja, which comprises the school of Environmental
Technology (SLT), Department of Computer Science and the Chapel.
1.6 JUSTIFICATION
A contour plan of part of Kogi State
Polytechnic, main campus Lokoja is not only important for reference and
achieving purposes but also for proper maintenance restructuring
administrative utilization and future development.
