ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPACT OF HUMAN RELATION ON ORGANIZATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY
(A
CASE STUDY OF LOKOJA INVESTMENT AND PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT COMPANY (LIPC) LOKOJA)
ABSTRACT
The
study examined the Impact of Human Relations on Organizational Productivity. It
outlined the nature of human relations, human relations in an organization, the
effects of good human relations, factors affecting poor human relations,
establishing efficient human relations, leadership role in maintaining human
relations, the role of communication in human relations, difficulties and how
to improve in working relationship, human relations an image of the
organization and human relations in clients satisfaction. The survey method of
research design was used; data were collected by means of the questionnaire
from a sample of 35 staff out of a population of 51 staff of Lokoja Investment
and Property Development Company Limited (LIPC). The data were analyzed using
the simple percentage method of data analysis, the result of the analysis
revealed that traditional treatment (autocratic leadership) of employee can
affect human relations, it was concluded that regular payment of workers
salaries, effective organizational structure and fair treatment to all
employees can help in overcoming poor human relations. The study recommended
that workers should be tactful in handing people around them in a skilful
fashion, if their work is to be carried out effectively. Institution of higher
learning should ensure that workers no matter any field of study, be trained
not only academic wise, but also in character.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
No organization or any business firm
can develop without effective human relations. an organization cannot operate
in a vacuum. Without putting human relations into consideration as such. It has
been observed over years how effective human relations affects an
organizational productivity and how it plays a vital role in the growth and
development of any organization. This is so because, no business organization
or public organization will achieve its
goal which is profit maximizations if its human relations are poor, as such, the
efficiency of any organization depends on how much relations is put into
practice by that organization.
Today, many managers have complained
about staff who are not competent, responsible with their superior as suppose.
In the same vain, the staff are also complaining that it is in the manager,
colleagues, subordinates and the
superior officers that lack good human relations skills. The inability of some
staff, managers and other to exhibit good human relations may result to poor
relationship between themselves and to the public at large.
Human relations is the integration of
people into a work situation in which a way that encourages them to
productively and co-operatively work together thereby achieving both social and
psychological satisfaction win their work. It can also be seen as that
relationship that exist between workers within an organization as well as the
relationship between workers and their customers or the public.
More so, a good human relationship
will help staff/workers in an organization to a large extend in the cause of
communication or carrying out their day to day office duties with good human
relationship by workers in an organization, it will help create friendship
between workers in an organization, colleagues, visitors, superior officers and
even the public at large.
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Despite the roles of human relation in
en-lowering cooperation among staff, improving satisfaction, group effort and
improved organizational productivity, poor human relationship skill from a
major characteristics.
Some of the problems include the
following:

Traditional treatment of
employees (autocratic leadership on the part of some superior officers)

Lack of routines and
irregular payments of employees salaries and other benefits
-
Poor communications system
and inadequate organizational structure which hinders effective communication
between subordinates and superiors in an organization.

Lack of understanding by
both the employees and employees in the organization.

Unresolved conflict view
prompts the solutions to other problem are control if human relations is to
made effective for improved performance and productivity in an organization.
1.3 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The main purpose of the study is to
assess the impact of human relations on organizational productivity
specifically the study will examine the following:

Identify the goals of
human relation in an organization
ii.
Examine the impact of good
human relations organizational productivity
iii.
Identify the causes of
poor human relations in any organization
iv.
Identify the strategies
for overcoming poor human relations in an organization.
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The study will be of paramount
significance to employee because outline the causes of human relations, the
need for good human relations in an organization and always in which employees
can overcome poor human relations.
Employers/management of organization
will also benefit from the study because it outlines the causes of poor human
relations in an organization, it impact on productivity and ways in which
management can overcome such problems.
Future scholars and researchers will
also benefit from the study because it will be used as a guide for study on the
impact of human relations on organizational productivity.

based on the purpose of the study.

1.6 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
It would have been an interesting work
if the research would cover a wider length than this, since the significant of
human relations is not limited to one organization, community and cities etc
but due to some constraint, the researcher restricted the study to Lokoja
Investment and Property Development Company (LIPC) Kogi State.
