AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY ON PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT IN NIGERIA

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1   BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Bibliography is a list of books on articles about a particular subject or by a particular author; the list of books that have been used by somebody writing an article.
Nigeria is a Federal State (Republic) modelled after the Untied States, which executive power exercised by the president. The government of Nigeria is also influenced by the west minister system model in the composition and management of the upper and lower hoses of a bicameral legislature.

However, the president of Nigeria is the head of state, head of government and head of a multi-party system. Nigeria presidential system of government takes place within a framework of a federal, presidential, representative, democratic, republic in which executive powers is exercised by the government and the two chambers of the legislature, the house of representatives and the senate. Together, the two chambers make up the law-making body in Nigeria called the National Assembly which serves as a check on the executive arm of government.

The highest judiciary arm of government in Nigeria is the supreme court of Nigeria.
In view of the above and its runnings in Nigeria shall this bibliography be compiled.

1.2  STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS
There are lots of problems associated with the use of manual operation in providing the relevant information needs during the course of research programme and the materials used are outdated, this leading to the presentation of information which could be misleading.

Therefore, a need arise to compile bibliography on the presidential system of government that will serve as a guide to users and help to easily access the information needs during the course of research.

 1.3  OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The essence of this study is to know about the presidential system of government in Nigeria, its inception in the country and how it has contributed to the development of political administration in Nigeria from 1979 to this present modern era.
  1. To know the meaning of presidential system
  2. To know its influence on Nigeria administration
  3. To know the functions and impact
  4. To know the extend it has gone in Nigeria
  5. To know when it was adopted in Nigeria
  6. And to compile annotated bibliography and presidential system of government.
 1.4  SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The significance of this annotated bibliography is to compile annotated bibliography on presidential system of government in Nigeria using ‘’Nigeria Tribune’’

Its aim is to serve as reference materials in the library for information seekers and library professionals. It also serve as a tool to assist information seekers in gathering facts and sources of information to meet the needs of their clients.
This bibliography is intended to serve as a tool for researchers and scholars who are under the subject in discussion ‘’presidential system of government in Nigeria’’ to quickly find information of their choice or related.

1.5  DEFINITION OF TERMS
Bibliography: Is the systematic study and description of books. It is used either in the listing of books as a tangible object and may take a form of organized information about a particular work on a given subject or a particular nature of period.

Government: The group of people who are responsible for controlling a country or a state.
System: An organized set of ideas or theories or a particular way of doing something

Presidential system of government: Is one in which all executive powers are vested in one person called the ‘’president’’ and in which the executive arm of government is separated from the legislature but equal to it.

CHAPTER TWO
2.0  LITERATURE REVIEW
Literature review is the most important aspect of any research work, as it present the trend and progress of research in the field of study. It give detail analysis of the subject matter and above all; it acknowledge the effort of pioneer and to create awareness for reviewing and objectivity.

So this chapter gives detail analysis of presidential system of government which we need to know and it adoption in Nigeria.

2.1  MEANING OF BIBLIOGRAPHY
Bibliography according to the New Webster Dictionary of the English Language (1993) defined it as a complete list of a writer’s work; a list of books on a particular subject, a list of references at the end of a book, the history of book authorship, edition, publisher and place of publication and year of publication etc.

The various types of bibliography we have are; National bibliography, bibliography of bibliographies, universal bibliography, historical bibliography, cumulative bibliography and so on.

Bibliography is an indispensable work in terms of storage and dissemination of information.

Bibliography as a mater of its importance helps to provide quick and easy access to published information, provide descriptive element and document used of information materials. It helps the users to locate published or written materials of information value, help researchers to know what has already been written on any subject. Bibliography helps to avoid plagiarism which is a theft in the library world.
